On May 14, 2016, Rev. Dcn. Sylvanus Sunny Offorjebe was ordained to the permanent diaconate, beginning a decade of ordained ministry rooted in faith, service, and dedication to God and His people.
This anniversary website celebrates that journey — from the path that led to his ordination, through ten years of ministry, faith, and family, to the people and communities who have shared in his vocation.

A Journey of Faith & Service
His journey to the diaconate began long before his ordination. Rooted in the Catholic faith from an early age, Sunny spent nine years in seminary formation in Nigeria, initially believing his vocation would lead to the priesthood.
Life took him along a different path, but the desire to serve God remained. Years later, that calling led him through renewed formation and ultimately to ordination as a deacon on May 14, 2016.

On May 14, 2016, after years of discernment and formation, Sylvanus Sunny Offorjebe was ordained to the Order of Deacons by the Most Reverend Patrick J. McGrath, Bishop of San Jose, at the Cathedral Basilica of Saint Joseph.

For ten years, Deacon Sunny has lived his vocation through service at the altar, proclamation of the Gospel, Eucharistic devotion, sacred music, spiritual leadership, and service within the wider Catholic community.
From parish ministry to the Nigerian Igbo Catholic community and beyond, these years reflect a diaconal vocation continually expressed through faith and service.

Faith & Family
Behind Deacon Sunny’s journey of faith and ministry has been the love and support of family. At the heart of that journey has been his wife, Sabina-Ukamaka, whose encouragement and sacrifice accompanied his return to formation and his calling to ordained ministry.
Over the years, his vocation has become a journey shared by the family — one of faith, sacrifice, service and joy.

With gratitude for the years of faith, family, friendship, and service that have brought him this far, Deacon Sunny continues forward in his calling to proclaim the Gospel and serve God’s people.
