His journey of faith began early, rooted in a Catholic upbringing and a deep sense of calling to serve God. Believing that calling would lead him to the Catholic priesthood, Sunny entered seminary formation in Nigeria and spent nine years across the junior and senior seminaries.

Although circumstances eventually interrupted that path, the desire to serve God and His people remained. What appeared to be the end of one journey would, years later, become the beginning of another.

Life eventually brought Sunny to the United States, but the calling he had carried from his youth did not disappear. He remained actively involved in Catholic community life, finding new ways to serve while building his family, professional life and community relationships.

In time, the path toward ordained ministry opened again—not toward the priesthood he had once envisioned, but toward the permanent diaconate.

The renewed journey required years of preparation and discernment. Sunny completed two years at the Institute for Leadership in Ministry, followed by four years of formal diaconate formation.

Balancing formation with family life, professional responsibilities and graduate studies in Pastoral Ministry required perseverance and sacrifice—not only from Sunny, but from his family as well.

On November 14, 2015, Sylvanus Offorjebe was instituted as an Acolyte for the Diocese of San José—another significant step in his preparation for ordained ministry.

The journey that had begun many years earlier was now approaching a defining moment.
